When planning a vacation with your children, you may be tempted to "go big" to a monumental theme park or other spectacular destination. Unfortunately, the pace of these vacations can results in very tired children and frayed parental nerves. Add to that the expense of flying to a far-off destination. Take a look at what's available within an hour's drive of Boston and 2.5 hours from NYC!
Stage Neck Inn offers a wonderful, oceanfront destination with the best of both worlds ... amenities of a much larger resort and personal, warm service comparable to that of a small inn. Here at Stage Neck Inn, in York Harbor, Maine, there's something that most children universally love ... water. The Inn is built on an incredible piece of land formed of black rock which spills into the Atlantic Ocean on one side, The York River on the other, and Harbor Beach on the third. Along the cliffs, there are opportunities to search tidal pools for shells and sea life. The beautiful, gradual incline and sandy bottom of Harbor Beach makes it ideal for swimming and body surfing. There is a life guard on duty only in the summer months.
Don't like ot swim in the ocean? That's fine. Take your child swimming in our indoor pool, year round. In the warmer, summer months, we offer an outdoor pool also serving snack bar, serving snacks, cocktails and meals.
Typically during school vacations in February and April, we offer a Game Room dedicated to families and children. Over the years, many friendships (among children and among adults) have been formed here. We also offer clambakes for families with more than four people, upon advanced request. This is a great way to experience some of the best aspects of southern Maine and the bounty of the sea!
We invite you to experience Maine in the off-season. While there is definitely more do to in southern Maine in the summer, the warmer temperatures also bring more people. It is often in these quiet off-season times of merely being together, in a beautiful setting, that we cut through the distractions and create the most precious connections with our children. At night, go out on your Guest Room deck and see if you can spot any constellations. The sounds of the ocean's surf against the rocky shore nearly always invites "the sandman" to bring yawns and sweet dreams.
Should you wish to explore the area, bring your gear. You can kayak, snow shoe, and hike from the Inn. Nearby are four-season activities. In the winter, there is a small ski area (Powderhouse Hill) which charges only $5 per person for skiing. It's a small hill, but again, bigger isn't always better in a child's eyes. Of course you'll find the old standby's of bowling, indoor arcades, and a children's museum within about 15 minute's drive of the Inn.
In the spring outdoor attractions start to reopen for the season. We offer an entire list of Children's Activities In The Area. Although rainy weather finds most guests visiting the indoor pool, we also offer a list of ideas for your Rainy Day Stay. Our front desk staff and seasonal bell hops are happy to answer any additional questions you may have about the area.
Bring your children to Southern Maine. You may start a beautiful family tradition! We love seeing families grow and celebrate our repeat guests, some of whom were here as children and are now staying with their own children.
